The Mindful App

PROJECT

The Mindful app is a UX project consisting of studies, interviews, usability testing, and discovery that was part of my graduate studies’ year-long master’s work. This project initially began as a 15-page paper discussing a user-centered application, and eventually developed into a fully prototyped design application made using Adobe XD that encourages sustainable living.

STRATEGY

The Mindful app promotes reducing and reusing materials within the home and community by showcasing local shops, restaurants, and sustainable options.

When the user opens the app for the first time, the onboarding process starts. This explains the goals and vision the app has for its user. It is set up where users have to click the arrow three times before getting to the guides page. This ensures the user is aware of how to navigate the app.

The guides feature is considered the landing page on the app. It has guides to food, cleaning, pets & plants, on the go, electronics, and trash. The order of these topics were selected based on user testing results, with most users being interested in the food guides. These walk through guides also included specific tasks to increase user engagement with the app itself.

A video feature was also included to ensure users have a visual accompaniment for the guides, especially since user surveys have shown that having built in tutorials help the user meet the goals of the app more efficiently.

The location feature, which also includes filter buttons for options such as restaurants and spots for reusable materials, allows users to be navigated to spots they are looking for effectively.

Personalization was also added, with users having the option to see what posts they’ve liked, seek for help within the app, and set notifications.
